TEMELEC, Sonoma County — The Sonoma Valley County Sanitation District, which serves Temelec along with Sonoma and nearby unincorporated communities, uses a residential wastewater billing formula tied partly to winter household water consumption.
Sonoma Water says 30 percent of a residential sewer bill is calculated using water consumed during December through February, while the remaining 70 percent is based on a fixed portion covering collection system and treatment operations. Commercial properties use a different rate structure. The district’s sewer service area extends across multiple Sonoma Valley neighborhoods, and individual bills depend on the applicable account and rate schedule.
Winter consumption can be relevant because the billing method estimates wastewater generation during months when outdoor irrigation is generally lower. However, the formula does not mean that a household will receive a fixed refund for every gallon saved, or that commercial bills are calculated identically.
Information for residents
Homeowners should review their actual bill and call the agency’s sewer billing team at 707-521-6215 with their property address or assessor parcel number. Sonoma Water also lists available water-efficiency incentives and eligibility information.
